Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry

Lieutenant- Colonel Marv Makulowich, CD
Lieutenant Colonel Marv Makulowich was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on 17 July 1959.

Lieutenant Colonel Makulowich enrolled in the Canadian Forces in June 1977.  He attended Royal Roads Military College in Victoria and Royal Military College in Kingston, graduating with a baccalaureate in Engineering.  Upon completing basic Infantry Officer training in Gagetown in 1981, he joined the Third Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Victoria where he served as a rifle platoon commander and assault pioneer commander.

In 1984, he was posted to the Infantry School where he instructed a variety of courses ranging from Small Arms Instructor to officer training.

In 1987, Lieutenant Colonel Makulowich completed a Masters in Military Vehicle Technology at Shrivenham, UK.  Subsequently, he worked at the PMO Anti-Armour to procure the TOW Under Armour vehicle.  During this posting, he attended the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff Course, and the All Arms Tactics Course in the UK.

Upon promotion to Major, he returned in 1993 to Regimental duty as A Company Commander in the Third Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.  From September 1992 - April 1993, he commanded A Company on United Nations Peacekeeping Duty in Croatia.  Upon return to Canada, he moved to Chilliwack to commence work on the move of the Third Battalion and the transition to a 10/90 Battalion.  In 1994/1995, he attended Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto.

In 1995, he was posted as an exchange officer to the US Army in Atlanta, Georgia.  Upon return to Canada in 1998, he served as the G3 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in Edmonton.  Upon promotion to Lieutenant Colonel in 1999, he was transferred to G1 Land Force Western Area.

From June 2000 to August 2002, Lieutenant-Colonel Makulowich commanded the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Winnipeg including operational tours to Bosnia and security operations in Kananaskis.  During this time, 2PPCLI converted to LAV 3 and conducted the first LAV 3/ LEOPARD C2 combat team live fire in the CF. 

From 2002 to 2007, he was a Directing Staff and the Dean at Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston.

Lieutenant –Colonel Makulowich is presently serving as SO1 Team B G5 Plans in the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, the NATO headquarters of first choice, in Rheindahlen Germany.

Lieutenant-Colonel Makulowich is married to Sandra Manderstrom of North Bay, Ontario.  They have a son, Alexander, and a daughter, Kristin.
