CFSU(E) - SO Operation
Education Coordinator
Quimperléstr. 100 Selfkant-Kaserne, 52511 Geilenkirchen, Germany

A posting to Europe is a very unique opportunity to travel, shop, and participate in a culture as a resident; not a visitor. It is also a fantastic opportunity to further your educational goals!

The Education Coordinator CFSU(E) is located in Niederheid, on the Selfkant-Kaserne Base, in B14 room 201. The primary responsibility of the Education Coordinator CFSU(E) is to provide information enabling, and pertaining to, continuing education for CF military personnel based in Europe.

Specifically, the Education Coordinator:

  • Promotes and facilitates the Canadian Forces Continuing Education Program (CFCEP);
  • Advises members on CF education programs that best suit their needs, based on their individual eligibility and learning objectives;
  • Delivers education information briefings as required;
  • Liaises and coordinates with appropriate academic institution personnel to facilitate participation of members and recognition of their prior learning;
  • Advises and assists members with the Canadian Forces Military Civilian Training Accreditation Program (MCTAP) and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) procedures;
  • Assists CF members with their Individual Learning Plans (ILP);
  • Provides information on CF education reimbursement programs to military members individually, as required, to facilitate learning and career development;
  • Assists CF members with their education reimbursements;
  • Researches trends and developments in academia, to acquire current materials, and to provide current advice for CF personnel looking to upgrade their education and/or skills;
  • Advises and assists CF members who are releasing; and
  • Act as Official proctor/invigilator for Canadian universities and colleges

The Education Coordinator also assists and advises adult dependents. However, the Education Coordinator is NOT the Dependent Education Allowance Coordinator. When looking for assistance it is very important to distinguish between the two positions. The Dependent Education Allowance Coordinator is responsible for duties in support of education and related care benefits on behalf of dependants of personnel serving in Continental Europe and dependants of personnel whose children attend the AFNORTH and SHAPE (Canadian Section) International Schools; for children up to and including age 23. The Dependent Education Allowance Coordinator does not deal with specific educational questions and issues pertaining to adult dependents, nor educational questions and issues pertaining to university choices for high school graduates. However, the Education Coordinator does deal with education questions and issues pertaining to adult dependents and university inquiries from high school graduates.

The Education Coordinator has a limited selection of university, college, and distance education calendars available for loan upon request. Members and dependents are more than welcome to borrow as many calendars as they would like when researching programs and courses. In addition to civilian academic institutions, the Education Coordinator also has RMC calendars and OPME CDs.

The Education Coordinator can also assist members and dependents with the research of programs and choosing the most appropriate academic institution for the member or dependent.

The Education Coordinator facilitates on base academic programs; however, he is not a representative of any one specific academic institution. The objective of the Education Coordinator is to offer a varied and diverse selection of academic opportunities to members and dependents as is feasible in this unique environment.

The Education Coordinator is here for members and dependents as a connection to academia: through facilitation, assistance, and/or advisement. Please contact the Education Coordinator if you have any questions, are releasing from DND, or you are starting to think about what you are going to do once you get out of the military at:
